Joseph Hinton

Joseph Hinton is the individual the community of Hintonburg, Ontario, now part of Ottawa, is named after.

A shopkeeper and civic official in Richmond, Ontario, Hinton came to live with his son Robert in present-day Hintonburg sometime after 1867. He died in 1884 but his contribution to the community -- which included securing a post office and the Nepean township hall -- was recognized in the naming of the village of Hintonburg, now part of Ottawa, Ontario.
